HOW TO OPEN, CLOSE AND GRIP HELIX TO PERFORM TRICKS
For the Helix mechanism to work properly, the fingers of the hand holding the pen body must be inside the two lines (as in the video below). Holding Helix correctly may seem complicated, but it’s actually very simple! Keep testing until you find the position that feels most comfortable for you. When closing Helix for storage, be sure to tighten the cap tightly so it doesn’t unscrew automatically.
OUR FAVORITE TRICKS
In the video below you can see some of the tricks that we appreciate the most, some will be simpler, others less so.
It will take some practice to learn them!
If you don't succeed right away, don't be discouraged and keep trying. Always make sure you hold Helix as explained in the first video.

HOW TO REPLACE THE INK CARTRIDGE
Replacing the ink on the Helix is a very simple process. Simply unscrew the handle, then unscrew the small screw that holds the cartridge in place and replace it with a new one.
Helix uses Fischer Space ink.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR IRIS
Iris is made of stainless steel and polished brass. Brass naturally develops a patina with use, but this can be easily removed if you prefer a shiny look.
When cleaning Iris rings, we recommend that you take great care because if you do not clean them properly, you may interfere with the manufacturing tolerances.
Start by taking a brass cleaner, available at most hardware stores, supermarkets and online. Take a small cloth and clean the brass ring using small circular motions. Avoid getting the cleaner in the crevices and joints of the Iris, as this can attract dirt and create scale. The cloth will change color to black, absorbing oils and residue from the brass.
Once the brass is clean, take another soft cloth or paper towel and lightly moisten it with water and dish detergent/soap. Then, remove the detergent residue with a similar motion and care as before. Finally, dry any moisture present on the top of the Iris.
At this point your Iris should be shiny again and some micro scratches may have even been removed.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR HOVEL SHARPENER
Høvel is made of brass and comes mirror polished straight out of the box. Brass is a reactive metal that tends to oxidize naturally under different conditions, especially when handled. Oils and moisture from your hands will alter the color, oxidizing it and creating a patina. This can be easily removed if you prefer a perfectly clean and shiny appearance.
The first step is to disassemble the Høvel, separating the screw and clamp from the main body. Use brass cleaner, available at most hardware stores, supermarkets, and online. Take a small cloth and, using small circular motions, wipe away the blackened areas and graphite sections. The cloth should start to turn a deep black, indicating that the oils and dirt have been removed.
Once the brass is clean, take another soft cloth or paper towel and moisten it slightly with a little water and dish soap/detergent. Then remove the detergent residue with a similar movement and care as before. Then rinse the pieces under warm running water and clean them of all detergent residue. Finally, dry the remaining moisture. I usually use a yellow cloth for polishing glass because it polishes the Høvel, making it very shiny.
